Dylan Dumont Drafted by the Buffalo Sabres

Draft Day NHL June 27, 2026

Dylan Dumont was one of the youngest players in the 2026 NHL Draft. The Buffalo Sabres saw that as upside. Buffalo used its last pick, 188th overall in the sixth round, on the right winger from Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Québec, after a rookie season in which he led the Drummondville Voltigeurs in goals.

Who is Dylan Dumont?

Dylan is an 18-year-old right winger from Montréal's South Shore. Drummondville took him in the fifth round of the 2024 QMJHL Draft, and he spent one more year in Québec U18 AAA with the Saint-Hyacinthe Gaulois, where he scored 31 goals and 67 points in 42 games and made the league's First All-Star Team.

His first QMJHL season showed the scoring travels. Dylan scored 28 goals in 62 games for Drummondville, the most on the team, and added four more in five playoff games. His former Drummondville coach, Sylvain Favreau, summed up his game: "He's someone that can put the puck (in) the net, and in tight, he's got great hands, he can finish."

How the Buffalo Sabres drafted Dylan Dumont

Rounds two through seven ran on June 27, 2026, at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. NHL Central Scouting had Dylan 117th among North American skaters on its final list.

Jerry Forton, Buffalo's assistant general manager in charge of amateur scouting, called him "very much a player that gets to the inside of the game," with "almost a mini-power-forward approach to his style of playing." The Sabres also like how much room he has to grow. Two years ago, Forton said, Dylan weighed "135, 140 pounds." Now he is "170-plus."

Very young for the draft, an August birthday, so we're betting on some more physical development upside there.

First points in a Sabres jersey

Dylan's first summer as a Sabres prospect started at Buffalo's development camp. In September he played in the Prospects Showcase against Boston's prospects, and on September 13 he scored a goal and set up Doman Szongoth's power-play goal, a point on both Buffalo goals in a 6-2 loss. The Hockey News counted him among the showcase's top performers.

"I think it's amazing to play in the Sabres jersey," he said after the game. "It's a dream come true."

Two days later, the Sabres returned him and three other prospects to their junior clubs. Buffalo expects him to spend 2026-27 with the Voltigeurs.

Where CEM Hockey fits in

CEM Hockey represents Dylan and works with him and his family at every stage, from his junior years in Drummondville to the conversations with Buffalo about his first pro contract.

What comes next for Dylan

Buffalo holds his NHL rights. His job this season is the one that got him drafted: score goals for Drummondville and keep adding strength, so that when the Sabres are ready to talk about an entry-level contract, his game makes the case.

Congratulations, Dylan. Buffalo got a goal scorer.
